So has anyone motorized the snowblower chute rotation? I've looked on the Net all of them are the gear type not ones with cables.

I believe that's what's used above; an old GM model.

I would also think this could be used, assuming you can't find a GM one at the junkyard:

Go to "robotshop dot com" and search for "power window motor" (Can't use a direct link).

$19.50 with connector; I don't know whether a right or left unit would be best.

The oem simplicity motor unit is basically a mid 70's GM power windo motor with a different drive gear on it.

The rotation system on my simplicity blower is basically a homade copy of the oem system pictured above. I used the automotive gear on the motor and just found a 12 pt socket the fit over the gear teeth and welded it to the end of the drive shaft the cables attach to.

Took some trial and error fitting but it works great.

Looks like I'll need to be putting the old South Bend in my basement shop to work making a coupling to go between crank rod and motor.

Got the mechanical part all put together plan on mounting it right behind the chute in front of the tractor instead of to the side. IMG_20190207_000450553.thumb.jpg.7e02c5ba9edeecd3774b8d5674492463.jpg

Looking forward to seeing the instillation pics.

I don't think the bearings will ever fail.

I did not know Simplicity offered that option.  I found a video of someone who did it a little different, but still used a window motor regulator cable setup.

Here is the video from youtube. Not my setup.

Well it's all done one thing I learned doing this job is if you take a rose bud to a craftsman socket and heat it up then slowly back the torch off of it and the let it cool you can drill and tap it.

@krt

Thanks for sharing the operational video.

And I like where you positioned the operator vs the OEM setup - it's more out of the way and protected.

I went ahead and wrapped the inner chute with the plastic from a window washer fluid container and used the bottom of a plastic bucket that the chute sets on .great idea not sure came up with this improvement made a big difference. Was able to use the existing cable also motor was $17.95 on amazon.

Can you share the amazon link? Great job. I might make a deflector/cover for the motor.

the window motor was a cardone 42-152 mid 1990's GM motor for $17.88 from amazon.
