BillC 0 Posted April 25, 2002 To improve snowblower performance you can add a piece of rubber to each of the (2) middle paddles of the auger where it throws the snow out of the chute. The rubber would need to be thick enough in order to be stiff enough not to bend under load. I would bolt the rubber and double nut the bolt and maybe try using self-locking nuts to make sure they do not loosen up. The rubber will decrease the radial clearance to near zero and will improve the throwing performance of your blower for a relatively inexpensive cost. Guest Posted April 25, 2002 Hello all. I have a 42" snowthrower (1690038) on my AC 716H. While it is still working, it is in need of some repair. What is the clearance suposed to be between the auger and the housing? Mine is a little over half an inch, and I suspect that this is a little large. This unit has been used for over 25 years on a gravel driveway, and over the years has moved a lot of gravel. As you can guess it is somewhat worn. Thanks Al Owler
Dutch 4 Posted April 25, 2002 Don't know what it's supposed to be, but 1/2" seems a little wide. I think there are kits available somewhere to put rubber wipers on the blades. You could probably make something yourself.
UCD 15 Posted April 25, 2002 The auger more or less centers it self in the blower housing you want that clerance in case you do pick up small rocks the clerance dosn't effect the performance of the blower. I have an old blower here the auger blades are all rounded over and it still blows snow better than one of them blue or yellow and green things. my 7790 has worn out or tore up 4 blowers. This & $1.00 might get you a coffee Maynard aka/UCD
