RickH 0 Posted April 25, 2002 I need info on repairing the Shift rod assembly that goes into the top of the tranny. The "ears" snapped off so I am going to try welding them back before I buy a new one for $50. I need to know if I need to split the tranny case to remve it or not. HELP??????? and thanks
Eddie 0 Posted April 25, 2002 HI, I DON'T THINK YOU NEED TO RIP APART THE TRANNY TO REPLACE THE SHIFT ROD. THE ONLY WAY YOU MIGHT HAVE TO IS IF YOU NEED TO TAKE THE UNIVERSAL BALL OUT OF THE TRANNY IT'S SELF.
RickH 0 Posted April 25, 2002 It is the universal ball on which I must repair the ears. I was using the name given in the owners manual for the universal ball, sorry. Is there any way to remove it without disassembly of tranny ?
Cal 0 Posted April 25, 2002 Rick yes you can pull it out the two halves of the ball pivot will cme out with it, just make sure it is in neutral first put a vise grip on the shaft then use a forked bar to pry out the shift stem Cal
