airgunner Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 I had the fairly common problem of a worn bellcrank on my late model Sovereign project tractor. The hydro lift lever had many inches of slop or wasted motion before it would activate the valve. After cruising posts on here, I decided to look at my bellcrank. I ordered a new one for about 10 bucks, and dug into it. I was easily able to remove the nut and washer holding on the lift lever by using a 12 inch extension and working from the right side. Sure enough, I could see the slot was wallowed out on the bellcrank. I was then able to reach in and rotate the bellcrank on the valve shaft enough to access the master chain link, and remove the link and the bellcrank from the left side. Not too difficult, took a little fiddling to reinstall the chain link using a needlenose to position it. The entire job took about 1/2 hour and now the hydro lift lever feels like a new tractor. No engine or fuel tank removal required, really a simple job. So if anyone out there has this issue, don't be afraid or intimidated to try fixing it. This tractor has the Command 18, so it is tall and does limit access to the bellcrank. An older 7100 series with a flat twin would offer more room and probably be even easier to fix. 2 1
