When the variable speed on a b112 is adjusted properly should the belt stop almost immediately when depressing the clutch?  Also if adjusted properly can you clutch the variable speed when it is in a different range other than high (7)?  Thanks in advanced.

I am not completely versed on this, but I believe the belt should stop relatively quickly as the brake should also engage. I don't believe you can adjust the variable unless you are in motion, or neutral with the clutch engaged.

The variable on my grading tractor likes to be about half way through it's range if I want to make sure that shifting is smooth. I've had others that worked good in all ranges, and I'm not sure what the differences are. I notice that if I don't spend any time between gears, shifting is better too.

I've got a feeling that the factory adjustments work better when you have new parts. All my belts are old and very flexible. I kind of wish that Simp would have just put a little brake shoe on an arm to lightly push against the inside rear shiv between it and the transmission. Like a snowmobile of the same vintage. A positive stop.
