Simplicity 7018 Sovereign questions

What size engine came on this unit? Found one that is in fair condition for $300, the dealer said the engine is bad and I am wondering if it's worth fixing? It is a twin cylinder. What is involved in replacing the engine (assuming worse case)? Is it a briggs, kohler or onan?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,

Bill

If that tractor has a 2 cyl. eng. in it,it's not the original. The original was a single cyl. 18HP Kohler overhead valve, not the greatest eng. around,so if there's a twin in it now, you'll know why! A single cyl. cast-iron L-head Briggs OR Kohler will fit right in the trac. with no problems! The price for it sure seems decent,as long as it's complete with a deck. It's supposed to come with a 48" mower and hydro transmission. Good Luck! dlc

The Smiplicity 7018 Sovereign had a kohler cast iron engine with over head valves model K-361QS.
I have a AC-718 with the Kohler K-361QS. I just rebuilt the engine&repainted the whole tractor, same as Simplicity 7018 Sovereign.
hope this helps karl brandt

Too bad - the original 18 may become a collectable as it was the largest single in the series - but then they are all "collectables" aren't they? :)

Edsels are 'collectables today too! but they were also 'junk'when in production.[just like the above sad excuse for an eng.!] My 1 1/2 cents and that's it! dlc

would be a 7018 with a SHUTTLE trans.and elec lift! Maybe I oughta 'build' a few of them turkeys for 'collectables'outta spare parts! And then I'll put a right hand disch. deck on it off a 300-400 Ser. AC!Priceless! dlc

Sure thing, Dave. And you'd have to 'flop' the PTO belt rotation so that it would eat belts in no-time flat!
And if you can't find enough K-361s, you could put an early Vanguard in it!
They sure would be unique. A Simplicity that didn't run well, didn't cut well, and ate belts! (Hey, isn't that a Murray or an AYP?) (Personal opinion, don't sue me, your mileage may vary.)
