jverhaag Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Good morning I could use the forums help. I rebuilt the Oman engine in a 73 4041. During the rebuild I seem to have misplaced the oil filter adapter. I can not find it. Does anyone have one laying around or a recommendation on where I can find one. As for how the rebuild is going, it has been a long process. I have been learning as I go. I have never completely rebuilt an engine so I am teaching my self as I go. I did take it to an experienced shop to have the rings installed, heads ground and the valves seated. I watched the process and asked a lot of questions but defaulted to the wisdom of experience. I am close to get it installed and first start. But without the adapter for oil filter I’m dead in the water. One big mistake I made was not taking pictures during the tear down process. After six months I can not always remember how it came apart. So that has really slowed down the process. But it was a valuable lesson. Experience and failure are excellent teachers. 3
720nut Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 John check with Mike Noonan, he may still have some of the parts I sold him last fall
fishnwiz Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) Photos during disassembly do really help, big time. I also zip lock bag assemblies together just to keep them straight. Heck, it's hard to remember where things go a few days later let alone six months later. Good luck on your part search. Edited June 28, 2019 by fishnwiz 1
jverhaag Posted June 28, 2019 Author Posted June 28, 2019 Stupid question: how do I contact Mike. I went through the members list but I don’t know his “handle” (is that the right term)?
PhanDad Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I believe @mnoonan42 is what you’re looking for. 1 1
jverhaag Posted July 2, 2019 Author Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) As an update I did not find the original part. My shop now looks like a bomb went off in it. I believe it was thrown out at some point with the filter. I did find a used one on line and ordered it. If you find your self in a similar situation the original part number is 122-0320. This is superseded by 122-0814. In my research it turns out that same Onan part was used in Toro, Cub Cadet and John Deere engines. This fact made it much easier to find. Onan had three for 75.00 a piece. But there were several others listed on eBay under these other manufactures. Of course the best course of action is not to loss your parts in the first place. 😁 Edited July 2, 2019 by jverhaag 2 1
