Grader (Belly Blade)

I used to have one of these but when I sold my B10 I had been planning on buying a Kubota Diesel lawn tractor and so I sold all my attachments with it. Snow blade, belly blade, the deck everything. Well wouldn't you know I end up passing on the Kubota (still kinda kicking myself on that one but more another time), and now here I am with another Simplicity. My old machine was an early 60's B10, now I have a need for another belly blade (go figure) and I found a guy selling a Big 10, and a bunch of accessories one of which is the belly blade. Does anyone know if the blade that works on his Big10 will work on my Sovereign? He's looking for $100. Fair?

It will fit. I like to use mine on a foot dragger so I can use force with my feet. I've honestly never used one on a RBT, but I know the mounts are the same.

I agree.

On an RBT you can also stand on it to have it cut better - just have to use the bowlegged cowboy stance to clear the running boards.

It fits and You certainly won't find one cheaper.  That's less than half price in most areas.

I never thought about the running boards. Do the stirrups clear the running boards? I guess if so I could maybe get my legs out that far. I need to get about 10-12 yards of dirt dropped to lever some yard areas. The guy will use a smaller dump truck and he can drive it down to the areas. My thought then was to use the tractor with belly blade to grade it into the area. I did this once before with my old B10 30 years ago. But if the consensus here is it will fit and can do this job I will snag that thing right up

Yes, that's what they were added to the design, to do.  It is a bit of a stretch of the legs, but the only way a grader can really be used on an RBT.  I dislike them for FDT use.  Kinda forces you to stretch too far.

These graders are hooked to the rock shaft with chain links making it so that there can be no down pressure supplied by the machine. I've had half a thought to rig one of these up with a solid link the the rock shaft on a hydrolift 7100 series. Use the weight of the machine for down pressure. Anyone tried it?

On a Wheel horse in the past. They have the same chain hanging down to raise their graders. I subbed a piece of iron for the chain. Does well for down pressure, but it is real easy to put enough pressure to loose traction at the rear wheels..ie raise the back of the tractor off the ground&:)

Heavy suspension spring?

Maybe an old trailer leaf spring mounted to frame and center attached to blade?

Sam,

I had the same loosing traction issue on my Hydro lift Big Ten when using my "Dutch" toothed grader off the rear mounted on a Brinley box blade arm.

Here is the set-up mounted on RBT, and a action sequence.

I was thinking about a telescoping piece loaded with a stack of valve springs from an American V-8.

Even with just your feet, the grader can catch and lift the tractor. Loaded ags with wheel weights helps a bunch.

I bought my second 3112V for $500 only because it came with a 42" deck and the lovely grader attachment.

I had a chance to pick up a Brinley/Simplicity lift attachment for $20. Didn't need it. 6 months later I asked the guy if he still had it. He did but no longer wanted to sell it. I'm still kicking myself.
