I have the orange A/C version of that rig and I love it. Steering is heavy, so I plan to do the "Poor Man Power Steering " mod. I have the parts, just hasn't risen far enough up the To-Do list. :$

Welcome to the site @Lawdawg79. I'm also from the St.Louis area. The Kohler opposed twin engines have a sould all their own. I love them. I have had three 917's in my collection, an AC 917 and the two of the all-green version  (early) of the Duetz 917 though I sold one of those.  These tractors also cut beautifully. IMG_6513.thumb.JPG.6fd24539b4baedaa97a6c884be4624de.JPG

Beautiful find. Craftsman seat looks comfortable but a Deutz Allis decal might be able to hide that red label.

I've got her home, gave her a good bath the other night. Dealing with some expected running issues that I believe are carburetor related at this time.

Where's the sheet metal for the left cylinder head. What is your running issue. Left cylinder may have overheated if sheet metal been missing for long. You may have seized rings or worse. Hopefully not.

I had the cover off for some inspection.

I cleaned and reinstalled the carb and it fired up, ran less than a minute and died. Its done this repeatedly.

Tried starter spray with no luck.

Noticed coil was hot, not from excessive cranking. Removed coil, ohms are all over and excessive when testing from - + and i get nothing at + to hi output.

I think im gonna give the Harley 5 ohm coil a try.

I ended up going with the old style... i noticed on the questionable coil looks like the top is pushed out. I dont think any ive seen made are supposed to look like this.
