gcbuckley Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 I have been mowing with a 2210 that i picked up this spring. I put a new air filter on it, changed the oil, cleaned the carb, and thought it was all set to go. After mowing for 30? minutes it started to loose power and quit. I took the air filter off and it was soaked with oil. but with the filter off it started up and ran good so I put another new filter on it and it did the same thing. I left the filter off and drove it back to the garage and started looking things over and put a oil soaked filter back on it to see if it would run and it backfired and blew the welch plug out. It has 75-80 lbs compression and really runs good, had descent power and starts easy. Is it time to rebuild it ? I think the compression is on the low side, but it runs so good thanks for any help Gene
maxwood Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Hello, Is the crankcase breather clogged? Thanks Ken in Mi 1
Brettw Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 It sounds like a breather problem, or extreme excess back pressure. The oil in the filter is coming from the breather assembly. If this is a new issue, and it sounds like it is, I would look to a bad breather as Ken said. It is also possible that something has failed internally and you simply have excessive blow by of oil. What you describe is very excessive. 1
MrSteele Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 In the old days, I got plenty of free engines because of the problem you described. Usually all it took was 2 things. Adjust the intake valve adjustment(grind the stem) and cleaning out the breather. They can be washed in a solvent. Long term, you are likely looking at a set of rings, but depending on how you use the machine, that can likely wait until you do not need it weekly to mow the lawn. If you go to the trouble of the valve, check and adjust both 1
gcbuckley Posted July 18, 2019 Author Posted July 18, 2019 Thank you for all the info. I have not had the time or it has been to hot for me to spend much time out in the garage. This past saturday I (had) to go rescue a 101 and it is still sitting on my trailer waiting for me to unload it
