Lance Skene Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 I know its not a Tractor but it is a Simplmachine... couple weeks ago this was just a frame and most of an engine... but I have alot of parts for these rigs so I decided to rebuild it... its the 5th one Ive done... 3 were sold... #4, a Deutz Allis 1312H, is still here but the engine smokes alot. I mow 3 acres with alot of buildings/trees/obstacles, some mild slopes, and a little rough-ish terrain in the ditch along the road... a tractor with a belly mower takes a least 8 hrs... with one of these rigs Im done in 3 hrs. Still a WIP but it is a complete and functional mower. 16hp Vanguard V-Twin, hydrostatic front wheel drive, rear wheel steering, 48" deck 2
Lance Skene Posted July 21, 2019 Author Posted July 21, 2019 I maintain a couple Gravely ZTs for a landscape company but I havent spent much time mowing with them.... they might be more comfy with more room for your feet, and bigger tires so they ride nicer... the Simplicitys have pretty small tires so you feel every bump.... thats why I put on the highback seat... but I think I prefer the steering wheel over the dual stick controls on the ZTs. These rigs dont have alot of weight so I like to add a lift assist spring to the deck so that some of the decks weight is transfered back onto the drive wheels to aid traction... this also allows me to cut about a foot off the lift handle... otherwise it gets caught up in the hedges which then end up flying into your face. I built the aluminum basket on the front for sticks, dog bones, etc. Since this is my 5th 13XX I pretty much know how I like to set them up. I have both 42" and 48" decks for them, in areas with alot of trees the 42" is prefered, and I have one rear dump box but it makes the backend wider/longer and I tend to crash it into things on tight turns so I dont use it much.... and wooden racks just look better... this Deutz Allis was second of these 13XXs I had...
Lance Skene Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 Built the wooden rails for the back today.. 3
Allis 16 Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 I bought one of these used last fall. Only used it once ran great excellent cut. The orange Allis model. 16hp vanguard. Ran premium fuel with seafoam. Parked for winter. I can't get it going this spring. Turns over no start. Runs on starting fluid. Cleaned carb. No change. Fuel petcocks on. Parking brake on. Ass in seat. Am I missing a safety interlock. Like I say only used it once. I feel like I'm making a stupid oversight. Any feedback from. Another allis/deutz/simplicity 1316h owner would be appreciated.
jlasater Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 If it runs on starter fluid, it's a fuel issue. May try blowing back through the fuel line to the fuel tank. Does it have an inline filter? Might replace it. Also, disconnect the fuel line from the carb, put it in a bucket, and crank it over...see if it's pumping fuel. 1
Lance Skene Posted August 25, 2022 Author Posted August 25, 2022 I sold the Agco Allis a couple weeks ago... and picked up another Deutz Allis 1316H a couple days ago... actually went out to buy a Cockshutt 30 but then saw this Deutz in the guys yard aswell so they both followed me home. Think this would be the 8th one of these rigs Ive picked up.. they are by far my fav mowers... and they sell good aswell. This latest one has a metal dump on the back but its missing the tailgate... I had a differant metal dump with a sloped back on a 1312 but they tend to hit things in tight spots so I will probably just build wooden racks for this one... I think they look better anyway. Seller said the hydro pump is bad but I have alot of parts for these rigs so that shouldnt be an issue, the motor turns but I want to check several things before I try to start it, has the 48" deck on it but I might swap it for a 42"... the extra 6" doesnt make alot of differance in mowing time but the smaller deck does get in and around tight spots alot better 5

Lance Skene Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 If anyone happens to have one of these metal dump boxes with a tailgate I'd appreciate some pics of it... I worked metal fab most of my adult life so I know I can make one but it would be nice to copy the oem tailgate. 1
Lance Skene Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 got the Deutz cleaned up a little and pulled it into the shop, pulled off the body work, pulled the plugs to check spark and squirt some oil into the cylinders before cranking it over for a bit.... put the plugs back in squirt some fuel in the carb... she Runs 3
Lance Skene Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 These rigs are nice and easy to work on once you get the bodywork off.... 1
Lance Skene Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 Out of the shop under its own power 👍👍 2
Lance Skene Posted August 31, 2022 Author Posted August 31, 2022 The Po had mentioned that there was a problem with the hydro... what he never mentioned was that it runs backwards... so when I pushed forward... it went backwards, and vice versa,Lol.... I looked but couldnt find any reversed linkages so the best I can figure is someone had the pump cases split in half and re-assembled them 180* out... which is easy enough to do... but it would also have been easy to fix. Lolol
Lance Skene Posted September 1, 2022 Author Posted September 1, 2022 Had the Deutz out on a few test runs now without a deck... just using it as a butt buggy around yard to see if any issues come up.... so far so well.... it was a bit rough at first, think maybe the fuel pump was struggling to keep up but it seems to have improved after running a good dose of Seafoam in the fuel, replacement hydro pump seems to be working fine, no big hills here but it will climb the steep ditch along the road in forward and reverse just fine. Two of the spindles on the deck are froze so that will be the next thing to look at... I have several decks for parts so I will rebuild one 42" and one 48"... I prefer using the smaller 42" but they sell better with a 48" In other news:.... didnt have room on the trailer when I picked up the Cockshutt and Deutz mower but there is another Simple tractor at the same place that I will be going back for.... an Allis Chalmers 917H with a series II engine and rototiller.... dont know much about it but the price was right. I had one before with tiller, mower and snowblower... most anything with Allis Chalmers on it sells good around here so Ive had a few....B10, 712S, 718, 611LT, 830 Sprint.... and a Simplicity 7016. Look forward to having another SimpleTractor to tinker on 2
Lance Skene Posted September 11, 2022 Author Posted September 11, 2022 Still havent got much done to this rig but I did put the box back on it so I can use it for some yard cleanup... it seems to have gotten past the stumble it was having occasionally and the controls are working better after some wd40... no tailgate so I have to be careful on hills but its a pretty handy little truck just to run around the yard with. 3
