B-112 Steering Gear

Recommended Posts

When I first got my B-112 it seemed to steer hard. I took the steering gear apart to clean and lube. When I put it back together I realized that you can't overtighten the nut that goes on the stud of the gear where it passes through the frame under the tractor or the steering gets too tight. However, I check it periodically and have found that it keeps loosening up. There is a lockwasher there, so it has never fallen off, but seems like it could. Any suggestions, or is this common? Thanks.

You might be able to find a lock nut to fit it. This is a nut that the top of the nut opening is a little oval or it has a nylon band in the top. Using this you can tighten the nut enough to remove the excess free play but keep the movement smooth. Do not use the lock washer with the lock nut, just a the flat washer. Roy Wooten

If you can't tighten the hardware without binding the steering, it sounds like something else is wrong. But, if it works for you, use some Loctite so the nut doesn't fall off.

Isn't there a bushing that sits in the frame that the bolt goes through?? Kinda like the 'tie rods' on the front axle. Can't recall for sure, that was 2 years ago I saw that part of my 112
