hydrostatic transmission speed problems

My 7016 with hydrostatic drive seems to have trouble holding a constant speed. If you set the speed on a slight uphill incline when you turn to go down the hill the tractor speeds up significantly. If you set the speed down hill or on level ground when you go up hill the tractor slows down significantly. The hydrostatic drive is a Vickers. Is there an adjustment on the tractor drive to correct this? Could it be one of the relief vavles leaking? Any Ideas? ClydeM

Probably worn ball joint at the control to pump lost motion makes it impossible to hold a set right,,

My AC 716H hydro had this problem while I was mowing. Just found the problem today. It was the drive belt slipping. I hadn't thought to check the drive belt on a hydro. Rod H.

I checked the belt and it is as tight as the spring can hold it. It doesn't appear to be slipping. The linkage has some slop in it but i still don't think it is what is causing the speed change. The throttle is good and stiff. it is not moving by itself. It acts like its something in the hydro. Does the hydro have a built in bypass that could be leaking? Clydem

Another common modification is to replace the spring on the hydro control rod with a piece of small PVC pipe to make the rod act like it's solid. I didn't like it quite that hard so I used some rubber hose instead, has a bit of give, but is a lot nicer to use.[A href='http://www.wheatfarm.com']http://www.wheatfarm.com[/a]
