Help - 30 in. Tiller model 990628

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me by providing a picture or description of the installation of the expansion spring on this model tiller. The spring is approx. 6in. long with a hooked section at each end. The one end has a loop before the hooked section. I have the tiller installed and am not sure of how the spring is installed if at all. Maybe the spring does not belong to the tiller??? This tiller is used on 727, 728, 738 tractors plus others. I believe the spring acts as a friction device for the overcentering of the lever that loosens the drive belt but I am not sure. Would appreciate any help. Thank You, Randy

Hello,I have the same model tiller hooked up to my 728.I just did some tilling yesterday. It works pretty good.I just went out and looked at mine and I don't see any springs on it.I would be interested in if it is supposed to have one because every now and then my belt will come off when its not engaged.I posted a message a while back about how to hook it up ect.and never got any replies so I just did some trial & errors.I wish I knew a little more about using it such as what gears to use ect.Just what little I have used it,it seems to work best for me with the hi/lo pulley in hi and 1st gear.I hope you get some replies so maybe we both can learn about these things. Good Luck with it and let me know how you make out with it. mowerman1193
