Mower Decks

I have had the experience of both mower deck spindle housings with and without grease fittings. I prefer the mower deck housings with grease fittings because you can force grease into the bearings and they last longer. I did end up changing the spindle housings without grease fittings to ones with grease fittings because I was forced to change bearings so often.

I have a question regarding mower deck spindle lubrication. I have a B-112 with a 48" deck. I just picked up a 3112v with a 42" deck. The 3112 deck has grease fittings on the spindles, the other doesn't. Should it, or did some of them use sealed bearings or something?

This may start a controversy. Some housings have grease fittings, other don't. Simplicity OEM bearings are sealed (theoretically shouldn't require lubrication). Are fittings installed just to satisfy those who believe that grease is good? Does grease in the housings even get into the bearings? Does grease help dissipate heat? Does grease do more harm than good by trapping moisture? I'll reserve my opinion.
