A couple of question on an Allis 712

I've had a 712 for a couple of years now and it only used had been for spraying.  Well I just purchased a leaf vacuum and now I need to purchase a deck for it.

Will any mower decks from that vintage work on  the Allis?  What size deck would you recommend given the HP?

Lastly.  This tractor sat out most of the summer and now steers extremely hard.  I've added grease where there are zerks  but had little improvement. Is there a common area that needs attention?

Regards

Any RBT deck should fit.  I run a 48" deck on my Homelite T-12 (12HP) and it's fine.  I think it would be OK turning a leaf vac unless the grass was very tall/wet/heavy.  Then you'd have to go real slow.

But probably more importantly, what size deck boot do you have?  The deck boots are specific to deck size (42" vs 48").

As to the stiff steering, disconnect the drag link and determine if it's the steering "box" giving you an issue or the axle spindles.  Could be either.

If it's the axle spindles, remove them and clean up and replace the thrust washers at a minimum.  Consider installing "Poor Man's PS":

And if you do "PMPS" add a dust seal to prolong the life of the thrust washer:

Thanks PhanDad.

I bought a new deck boot. but It's very good to know there is a difference in size .  Probably saved me $50.00 there.  I will follow your advise and let you know what I find when I work on it.

A follow up to the part steering issue I was having.  It was the drag link that was causing the hard steering.

Thanks to all.
