JeffG 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 I'd be interested in seeing pics of your Porter Cable. My best friend from childhood had one in his family for years, and swore by it. Unfortunately, vandals drove it up the powerline behind his house (now...that says somthing right there, come to think of it!) and it had an even quicker trip to the bottom, such that it came to a violent end. But if you can't post pics, I'd still like to know the power, engine, trans type, etc.... My friend will be interested. Thanks, Peter
Guest Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Is there any way to trace the #'s from the motor to find out what year this 700 was built? Also on my b-12 it has the sticker for the hi-lo option. Can I still buy this or will I have to find used?
Kent 434 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 The link below has the manufacturing dates for Model 19 and 23D Briggs engines by serial number. But, using this to date the tractor assumes two things: 1) This is the engine that originally came in the tractor and it has never been replaced... 2) The tractor was built and the engine installed in it by Simplicity in a reasonable (??) time, perhaps 2 - 6 months later....[A href='http://www.edgeta.org/mdate3.htm']http://www.edgeta.org/mdate3.htm[/a]
Guest Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Thanks that will be a big help. Especially when I go to finish my Porter Cable its either a 60' or 61'. It is a fun little machine to have.
dymondclay 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Jim, I would be interested in seeing pictures of that PorterCable also. I had one that I never got running (was severely beat when I acquired it). It had rear fenders, an automotive type exhaust (piped under the rear fenders), and a belt type speed/direction control setup. The engine was a vertical tecumseh (I think).
