Had to take one of the duals off to fit my narrow trailer.

Bought it from my child-hood friend, who had bought it 23 years ago in my now-hometown, from the same guy I had bought my 1928 Caterpillar Twenty from!

He overhauled the engine. Not sure what kind it is.

3 speed with High / Low range.

I got it for $1800, or  1/8 of the new JD I was looking at a month ago, and this one has a self-leveling bucket. (But not the power steering and 4WD).

Since I live a couple blocks from the grain elevator, I was able to scale in & out, the tractor with all duals & weights: 1400 lbs.

I should be able to make a mount to use my dozer on this, which would enable me to sell the 210 Deere (I'm running out of space in the shop!!)
However, I'll move the ag-bar duals from the Deere to this one.

Sears with a 15HP Cast Iron Briggs.

I love those self leveling Kwik Way Loaders. Had one just like that on a 916 DeutZ once. Built a set of forks for it too. Made it super useful with the forks..

If you could figure out how to ad some power steering to the tractor, that would be a Super outfit... not that its bad by any means. Just that PS makes a huge difference.

Price is not bad either. Not many working garden tractor loader outfits going for less than $2500 anymore.

They were field tractor wheel weights, cut into segments.

Nice find. The Sears Suburbans were tough old tractors. Believe it or not that Roper high-lo transmission is an aluminum cased unit, though they held up very well and were made for close to 50 years. They are typically more difficult to work on than a Simplicity and the chassis was designed with for a much smaller Tecumseh engine and when in the early '70s the Briggs models were added, they made for a very tight fit in the tractor. That is probably why the left headlight is removed, is for better access to remove the air cleaner. That is what I have found with my '71 Sears. I wouldn't say that any of the Sears Suburbans are particularly "Rare,"  certainly not an SS15., though its not as common as the SS12 which different variations of that machine spanned probably five years.  I see the "one-year "RARE" reference  quite frequently n in regards to the AC Big Ten, which actually was not only marketed in 1965 but also 1966. There are LOTS of Big Ten's out there.  The Sears tractors that are a bit more unusual are the Suburban's with Hydro-static drive.  I seem to recall reading somewhere that the loaders did not fit the hydro -models.

The SS14 appears in the 1971 Farm & Ranch catalogue. I think they were 1971-1972. Priced at $984.95 for the bare tractor, add $179.95 for a 42” deck, add $10 more for 48”.

Add $529 for the loader and $50 for the bucket.

I’ve had some Sears since I got into these tractors almost 20 years ago. Have had a GT-18, Suburban 12, Custom 10XL, and a ‘65 Suburban 10 with the Bradley variable speed system. I now only have the Hydro-Tractor 14 and some ìmplements. The Sears are somewhat underrated in the collector community but offer with a wide variety of models and colors making them a great tractor to collect. There have been some good Sears collector sites in the past but they have all disappeared. Spencer Ware’s Vintage Sears Garden Tractor page was a phenomenal resource with pictures of each model. Here are some pictures from the 1971 Sears literature. Very bright and colorful.

The MTD 990 tractors also used the low mount s/g  arrangement on the Briggs Cast irons in those.

Had two of the GT's that I pulled back in the 80's , pretty strong little tractor, both had Onan's in them

Cost me over a $1000 to rebuild the 18 hp back then , rods, pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, good thing was ya could get all the parts back then unlike now.

I was at an auction a while back where almost anything on the trailers was going for a buck. Had the bid on a camp chair ($1) and they threw in two very good wooden creepers. No more bids, so I got it all for the buck.
There was a box with some sort of hydraulic pump in it, brand new, plastic bag still sealed. They held it up, I bid the buck, and got it!
Did the research, it was a Eaton torque generator 1:6 ratio worth several hundred dollars!

You should bring them to Portage WI for Garden Tractor Daze this July... Sears is the feature tractor this year.

Thats the same sort of doodad I put in my manual steer sunstar. Just cut out a section of the steering wheel shaft and put it in. Then piped it into the hydraul;ics already on the tractor. Worked out great. 

 You would have to maybe come off the loader pump in some fashion to prioritize the steering valve.. that and make sure the pressures were in line with what the  valve will handle. I'm no hydraulics whiz though on any of this stuff., so thats about the limitations of what I can help with.

Used it yesterday hauling broken cement. Even with the bucket clear full, it steered quite well, even in the soft garden.

To take up space in the bottom w/o using a lot of soil to fill it up. Also to get rid of the pile of broken cement that is taking up space in the corner of the yard.

Added the first run of boards on the north side. Will add a bit more crushed concrete in the bottom then put up the rest of the boards.

I have the (100# each) planks in the pickup and had the tools all tangled up with the lumber. I moved the tools from the pickup to my trailer. That works better, and gives an excuse to drive the "new" tractor!  Up to now I had been using a half-inch drive ratchet with a 9/16" socket to run the 5 1/2" lag screws in. Then realized I had the means to run them in with my 1/2" power drill! Got eight put in in the time it took for one! 
Sure wish I had thought of that 40 lag screws ago!!!
