Sam; I have some steel to replace the fabric on my tarp building. I think my wife is ready to sell her little fiberglass travel trailer. Trailer gone; steel on building---------storage space again. Going to paint frame real good and treat the wood to waterproof it just in case it has to sit outside for a bit. We'll see when it's done.

Just another small job on the list Tom. Want to do that to move my bigger trailers as well.

Picked up a second Work Mate portable bench yesterday at an auction so I put it to use today.

I added reinforcement to the front axle where the tongue will pull/pivot.

60b2b3708a028_wagon013.thumb.jpg.8a21fc6c96806e6bc3b080e200dbaf18.jpg

Did some parts placement and some mental calculations about steering linkage and tongue placement. I decided to swap the spindles end to end so the linkage will be behind the axle. I drilled the spindles and used washers and cotter pins instead of the push clips that were the original setup.

60b2b4479394f_wagon016.thumb.jpg.dd3423f733ab48bdfe9abe2f788407cf.jpg

The one spindle had wear on the axle part so I filled it with bronze and dressed it with a file.

With the spindle repaired and installed the steering linkage is now behind the axle. I then figured out the pivot point for the tongue and the steering linkage and built accordingly.60b2b522d0b25_wagon020.thumb.jpg.19a67ab659f0122b0e639d2d86f49a25.jpg

60b2b5b20b3b7_wagon023.thumb.jpg.f3503ba16315f38207b0886497a4ec30.jpg

I added uprights to the frame to hold the sill timbers.

60b2b5f988d23_wagon024.thumb.jpg.08932b89f983d9d816c2e1fae0798e50.jpg

In the last 2 pics the sills are just set in place and not tightened down. Tomorrow I hope to make the tongue and pivot and paint the frame with some blue rust paint I have left over from another project. I have to pick up several nylock nuts to tidy up the steering linkage installation. Then I will build the deck and rear rack and preserve the wood with linseed oil. Pleased with today's progress.

More progress today. I built a tongue from metal in my "might use it someday" stockpile. Built a pivot point and welded it to the draw bar/steering pivot.

60b42dbec1536_wagon032.thumb.jpg.1edd1a4e30bdad6e53857a1a5c456f37.jpg

Put first coat of linseed oil on the sill timbers.

60b42e0d9f660_wagon033.thumb.jpg.96e9149d7b4f61b47ff3edefcfcd6a4b.jpg

Cut the cross brace pieces for the sills and coated them as well.

60b42e585a36d_wagon034.thumb.jpg.6000562df83dbdb543258c67aa504be3.jpg

While I was waiting for them to dry I applied the second coat of linseed oil to my trailer deck boards.

60b42ea2b2ec0_wagon035.thumb.jpg.4f53fe6c542b6616e0978828e64e0aea.jpg

I painted all of the frame and tongue I could with it in the position it's in. Tomorrow morning I will do the second coat and hope it drys enough to turn it over in the afternoon and do the topside.

Finished coating the sills and cross pieces. Then went for a nice relaxing ride on my Royal Enfield for 2 hours. That was it for today.

This morning I put the second coat of blue on the underside of the frame. Then I cut the boards I'm using for the deck and the 2 X 4's for the uprights of the rear rack. Three of my cut offs will work for the cross boards on the rear rack. I coated all the deck boards and other pieces I cut with linseed oil on all sides and the ends.

When I finished with the linseed oil I went into town to Facca Fasteners and picked up the nuts and bolts and wood screws I need to put it all together.

When I got home from town I unpinned the tongue and turned the frame over on the work mates

After supper I painted the first coat on any metal that was still bare..Tomorrow morning I will put on the second coat and then assembly of the wheels and deck can begin. When the deck is done I will apply a second coat of linseed oil to the top surfaces of the boards.

Your energy appears unending.

It would take for forever to do your latest project (or any of them for that matter).

Of course I think it speeds things along if you have skills and know what your doing.  sm00

Lloyd; next project is a steel roof on the gazebo on our upper deck. Have to finish this wagon first. Today I moved a rhubarb root and a peony root and installed a new hose reel on the house wall before I could work on the wagon again. I bolted down the sill timbers; installed the spacers between them; built the rear rack and installed 10 of the deck boards. Drill I  was using to screw the boards on was getting a bit warm and I could hear the beer calling my name so any more progress will have to wait for tomorrow. It is raining here now and supposed to rain all day tomorrow so I can work in the shop with a clear conscience.

  • B10Dave changed the title to New Project.......DONE

Finished installing deck boards. Went to lumber yard to get 1 X 3 clear pine for deck rails. Painted linseed oil on one side, turned them over and bolted them down. Put a second coat of linseed oil on the top surface of all the deck boards and rails...Finished. I am pleased with the way it turned out.

Great work as usual.  And IMO, in record time too.

But....

Here in the States, OHSA wouldn't approve - no hand rails..  666

Looks good!  Have thought of doing something like this myself, have two front axles and wheels and tires on the shelf, but just haven't gotten to it.  Now I have a pattern!  Really nice job!

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
