Briggs l head

Rebuilding a Briggs 243431. Can anyone tell me which direction the oil port on the con rod faces?

The eng was apart when I got it , .030 over, no indicator on the piston except 030 over stamp.

See attached and install per Figure 3. With the flat towards the cam gear side and the assembly marks towards the carb side. I suggest purchasing a B&S Service and Repair Instructions for Single Cylinder 4-Cycle Engines and study. There is more to assembling an engine "correctly" than just assembling, such as clearances.
