3416 H Shim Question

In assembling this rebuilt BGB it is shimmed to where the pulley has about 1/16" movement with the input held still, this is using 2 shims about .010 each. Then on the bench is a separate used BGB whose right hand seal is in a bit more, and it has three shims measure .050-.060 total.

My question is do all of the the BGB take different amount of shims, dependant on the application?

All the best

I've disassembled a lot of junk tractors over the years and I have not found any real consistency in how many shims are used , or in the thickness of those shims being used.

SmilingSam...I'm finishing up on the BGB rebuild . Tightened the crosshaft with pulley and spacer, tightened it in the frame holding the input shaft fast, and the pulley has about 1/16" lash and no detectable end play in crossshaft.

Sound right?

Thanks

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
