Kohler Engine Electrical Question

Recommended Posts

I just bought a Kohler K181 8 hp engine for a replacement on a tractor. It has recoil start with no provision for a starter/generator. The ignition system has a coil. Where does the coil get it's charge from? The other Kohlers I have hook up to the battery through the ignition and voltage regulator. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jeff Snyder

Sounds like a magneto ignition could have been converted to battery ignition, or electric starter could have been converted to recoil. Contact Kohler with engine spec number. They can tell what configuration it was when made.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁
