steve-wis Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Hi, I am rebuilding an old round top tiller. Got the chain case done and re-assembled. Now comes the tines. They are well worn but still usable. I don't plan to use the tiller much so I am going to straighten the bent tines and re-use. My question is this. The joint where the outer sets mount to the inner sets are worn badly, the pin holes worn excessively, and on one side, the tube of the inner set is cracked for about 3 inches from the end back. I am going to weld and grind the crack to repair it. I am thinking of shimming the worn outer sets and getting them on so they are tight when in position, and then welding the outer to the inner set, making it a one-pin assembly. The inner sets fit decent on the shaft and I will pin those. I don't see any real problem with welding the outer sets to the inner sets. Has anyone done this? Any problems? Any info is appreciated! Bill725 Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 I don't see a problem as the newer 36" tiller hub & plate assemblies are one piece. Quote
