Hard starting when hot

Recommended Posts

I picked up a rebuilt short block M20 and after 1 plus hour running if shut off it is hard to restart. The fuel was fresh and motor is using about at 1/2 pint per hour of oil. I still have under 5hrs. on this any ideas what I shold look for on this? Thanks, Dave

When hot, how does it crank (turn over)? If "sluggish" it could be because it's still "tight". If it turns over fast, check ignition, carb, timing, etc. Many times newly rebuilt engines need a few adjustments as they "break in". Also, the valves could be too tight, check and correct immediately if needed.
