I don't know if I'm in the right section of this web site , because I find that your site is hard to navigate. My question is if I send the ser # of my Simplicity Broadmoor model 707 can someone tell me when it was made , where and approx. age. I have included a photo of the serial number and the tractor . I would like to know where I check the transmission fill site and what type of transmisssion fluid . I would also like to know roughly how often to change motor oil? It was changed a year ago and is still very clean looking. Also could I find out where to get wheel disc. for my tractor.Questiondid the Simplicity Broadmoor come with headlights or was that extra.

PS the serial number is 008421 for the tractor incase you can't see it on the vin tag.Any help would be appreciated.

Paul,

I think your post would be better served in the "Talking Tractors" forum. In answer to your questions, I believe the transaxle has a side fill hole. Drain the oil from the bottom plug and fill from the side until it dribbles out. I used 80W90 in mine. I change my engine oil once a year regardless of use. I don't think there's a way of telling the year of manufacture from the serial #.

Good luck, Dave

Probably made around 1966/1967 in Port Washington WI.

Like Dave said above,  change engine oil once a year at minimum,  or every 25 hours of use ....whichever is sooner. I believe oil for summer use should be SAE 30.

The fill/check plug in the transmission should be  somewhere inline with the bottom edge of the  axles on one side of the transmission.

Based on this info from the Simplicity Engine Reference, the 707 was made only one year, 1967:

If the engine is original, the Briggs engine code will tell you when the engine was manufactured.  Then you know the tractor was manufactured after the engine date.

In the early years Simplicity did not track serial numbers to when the tractor was made. The best approximation is to use the engine code that was mentioned above.

Transaxle drain is on the side of the bottom. Fill plug is very visible on the rear of transaxle. Fill to the bottom of the fill hole, takes 1 quart of 80W-90. Change engine oil as told by Smilin Sam above. Tractor looks nice and complete, even has the added hi-lo transmission attachment, which was used with the snowblower. You can get a tie-on seat cover on ebay, cut a foam cushion for underneat. Original seats are hard (ie expensive) to repair because vinyl cover was crimped around edge of seat pan. Photo looks to be the original engine, whic is pretty amazing since it has been running since 1867! Engine code will tell you when the engine was made, look it up on Briggs website.

Ive got 2 707 series .  The Sportser of the family!!    I do not think they are both 67 model years and not sure if I can read the SNs.  (thought to be 64-66)   one has a 32" mower deck, they other with a small 1 stage snowblower and hi/low.....non stock hood.     Both have newer engines, like 8 HP B/S  .   Bother were semi basket cases when acquired but all factory parts with few , few exceptions or modifications!!   Both did their job faithfully at Grandmas 1 acre Illinois yard/driveway for , like 20 years.   Ive had them stored for the last 10.   These are like old Harleys......  they still start and run and are up to the task ...although the Hi Low is kinda jangle-ee and the one blade drive bearing is pretty shot!    As a younger guy I beat t****outta these weekly and they took everything with only belt wear....

Some info above is interesting!  as for the lights - the factory were hard wired and when on when the motor ran.....  most would not be factory but added over the years.    I think they were actually a unique part for the whole tractor and lights as one unique model number. ??  (not an expert)    never saw a real light switch in the hole above the throtlle / choke.....maybe that panel was used on another Boradmoor tractor.??

Keep this thread going
