Dudley
I currently have a UK built D272 AC tractor and am trying to get my wife interested. She wants something smaller. I thought a garden tractor might be the answer but which model. Its to take rallying, would keep up with the D272 (12mph), with tow hitch?, any ideas? Thanks
Fred
Robin, It sounds as though you would have to regear something. Even a SunStar, which would be a comfortable 'ride', will only do about eight MPH; and only about nine with the optional 26X12.00-12 rears. And that would be wide open at 3450, which one wouldn't want to listen to for too long. Garden tractors just aren't equipped for that kind of speed. Perhaps someone else could suggest a good candidate for regearing. Fred
Fred
Robin, Any Sim or AC tractor with a drive pulley sys to drive the trans. can be modified with a SMALLER pulley on the trans. to go whatever the desired speed would be.However remember when you do this you will be gaining ground speed but sacrificing pulling power. That's basically what the lawnmower racers are doing to get the speeds they desire. dlc
richp
My landlord has A smaller pulley I put on the input shaft of the trans. It's about 3" in dia. and the speeds picked up quite A bit. My question is are the increased rpm's going to damage the trans. Any input.I like the taller reverse for plowing long driveways.
