Anybody know what was originally in place of the fancy angle iron?

What do FDT and RBT reference ?

The angle iron is not supposed to be there. A shaped lift rod attaches to the blade where the angle iron is bolted. Looks like someone rigged that up to make use of a longer rod they had laying around.

 

FDT = Foot Dragger Tractor

RBT = Running Board Tractor

The yellow lift rod in this pic is from a B-110 36" snowblower - I'm not sure if the same rod is used for the blade:
