For the Powermax owners who have switched to an external alternator.

what size pulleys did you use.

I have read that you have to overdrive the Alternator so it charges properly

just need the ratio between the two

Appears to be 5 to 1 ratio

Thank you that is what I was looking for

Do you plan to run the drive pulley off the engine crankshaft ? What's the amperage output of the alternator your planning to run ?

Running off crankshaft

it is a small one wire off from Amazon

biggest reason for it was to run tach

and if in future I want to add electric clutches

If you ran 1.5 to 1, You should have output at idle based on a low idle of 1300 RPMs for a CCKB. And max output at only a slight bump to the throttle.

Being you are going to run a self exciting alternator, It will only start to output at around 2500 alternator RPMs if it is a CI type and at idle if a CS. But will keep working at idle after.

I really would not try and run it 5 to 1. IMO.

I don’t want to hijack your thread or thought process. A lot of people get frustrated with these engines losing the charging capabilities. So they go this route. I have a guy locally that will rewind the Syncro 3 wire stators. But due to the potential problems with the rectifier & the regulator, I call Engine Masters & talk to Jeff. Order a 20 amp Onan stator & a Kohler regulator/rectifier unit & have a fully charging system again. Just my preference. Several have done this. But to answer your original question, @720nut was the first that I know of that machined a pulley & added the single wire alternator. Best of luck in whichever direction you go. @Jesse Greco has all of the Onan flywheels ever offered between Syncro, Phelon & Wico. You can upgrade these charging systems with a 30+ amp circuit using a Performer stator with the right equipment. Hopefully Jesse will chime in.

I do not have a Power Max.

or an Onan motor

I have a 22hp Predator.

and it is in a LGT 195 Ford.

I want to run a conventional Tach.

I was running 2 to 1 ratio

and was not satisfied with results.

now I have to relocate alternator.

to have clearance for hydraulic pump.

At 3600 rpm a 5 to 1 seemed ideal.

however finding right size pulleys for crankshaft and alternator is difficult.

and also clearance problems

4 to 1 seems easily obtainable
