Back fit kit 1685174

My snow thrower is 169003 or 1690547,  on a 7016h.  I'm trying to figure why mine has a 5.25" drive pulley, and all the others show a 7" drive pulley.

Does anyone know what the "back fit kit" 1685174, for the 1690547 thrower consist of?  This kit is listed, but not shown on the operator's manual I have.

Thanks,

Mike.

Based on the FDT hitch you pictured in a different post, a prior owner ran your snowblower head on a FDT.

The FDT tractors had a fixed 4-3/8" driver pulley mounted directly on the engine shaft that protruded through the front grill as pictured on my B-110:

A FDT snowblower head had a 5-1/4" driven pulley.  The drive ratio between the pulleys was 0.83 (4.375/5.25).

The RBT tractors had a mechanical PTO pulley that has an effective diameter (when the belt rides) of approximately 5-1/8" and the snowblower head has a 7" diameter driven pulley.  The drive ratio is 0.73 (5.125/7), slightly less auger RPM than the FDT setup.  (The 7100 series cone clutch setup has about the same ratio)

If the PO kept the RBT size driven pulley on the snowblower head, the drive ratio would have been 0.63 (4.375/7).  The snow throwing distance would have been less.

This info is from the 1981 "Simplicity Kit Section" manual:

In reviewing the IPL for the MFG# 1690547, it is listed with the MFG# 1691521 snowblower and shows to be grouped with the MFG# 1690557 single pulley hitch.  So my guess is if you bought a MFG# 1690547 snowblower, you had to buy the "kit" which consisted of the 2 pulley hitch that came with the older MFG# 1690032 snowblower (the 2 pulley hitch is listed in IPL, it doesn't appear to have a separate MFG#).

Thanks again PhanDad.  My 700 and 725 had the pulley out front, like your B-110.  I'm picking up the parts I need and finish up my project next week.  My go-to Simplicity shop has the belt I need.  I might as well drain the tranny fluid, put on a new filter, and change the oil in the BGB as well, then I clean it all up and post some pics.
