Hydraulic leak at rear trunion- 7016h

My Simplicity Sovereign 7016H has developed a leak around the trunion. According to the Sundstrand manual, you can replace the seal lip without disassembling. But the housing bore has a very shallow concave surface. Is this a cover/dust shield? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Welcome to the club.

I had the same issue on a 7116 with Sundstrand hydro years ago.

Used the sheet metal screw trick to pull the seal and then replaced the seal with a new one.  Problem solved.

The lip seal is Simplicity part #1652234 and my notes indicates it crosses to a CR 6763.

Thanks, I have used the web site for years (7014s and two 7016h's) but never posted before.

I recall seeing the sheet metal screw images to remove the seal. In this case the seal is not visible. Just the silver concave disc. I have a new replacement seal lip #1652234SM but it is too thick and would cover the snap ring groove.

Do you know if the concave disc can be removed to access the old seal lip?

Thanks.

I replaced that seal in 2006 and this the only pic (poor) I have:

Apparently the seal was covered, but I don't remember anything about it.

But looking at this pic:

And the hydro pump IPL:

Your "concave disc" looks like the lip seal to me.  You're missing parts #3 (Retainer Ring) and #5 (Special Washer).

Get the manuals for your tractor from the Simplicity website.

No. 3 above is Ring, Retainer, 1652192SM. No. 5 above is Washer, Special, 1652235SM. No. 6 is Seal, Lip, 1652234.

Thanks everyone for your responses and help. I was confused because I already had the replacement seal lip. It was all plastic and the back surface was flat (not concave). I reviewed the sheet metal screw post and took a leap of faith, punched holes, screwed it and pulled out the old metal and rubber seal.

It took 2 minutes to seat the new seal, washer and spring clip. No more leak!

Thanks again.
