hurleyii 233 Posted November 12 (edited) Well guys me and my girl broke up and I found this little gem at the same time. So I said the heck with it . I’ve changed oil and ran a gas line a gas can and it runs great just like the owner said but it has no go go and virtually no steering. I’ve added atf till I have an inch of fluid in clear tube coming out of the lower housing of trans. Engine connection point has a good 1/8” of travel front to back. I can push down the relief valves easily enough in forward and reverse when trying to make it move. One is harder then the other but barely. Just enough to know which valve is which for direction. I have not changed filter yet. Hydro lift is not moving at all. However with the travel of the output shaft on trans I’m thinking hydro is shot . If that’s the case will a 16hp sunstar hydro work on this trans. Thanks for all the help guys and gals . Here’s pics. From what I see it needs pressure washed, buffed and a sticker kit. Tarheel 132 Posted November 12 Before doing anything major, check the charge pump. I myself have never had the rear end/hydro out of a Sunstar and so I can't really address any issues with the cooler etc. But from what I see in the parts manual, That seems to be on the pressure side and shouldn't be the issue here. The charge pump feeds fluid to the hydro as well as the lift and steering. Remove the drive pin from the charge pump gears and a known good unit will do just as yours is doing. No lift, steering or movement. I have found a good number of those drive pins to be broken over the years. The second thing is the oil hose from the transaxle to the bottom of the hydro unit. It doesn't take to much of a hole to keep the pump from lifting fluid. It is much easier to pull in air than lift oil. I would replace that hose first if it were mine. If that doesn't take care of it, it is a simple enough job to drop the drive shaft and pull the charge pump. Good luck with it

The hose that goes from of bottom of axle to hydro directly under filter has no clamps and is kinked off. I assume this is the hose you mean and trans fluid is full of air so I’m guessing this is my problem. Edited November 12 by hurleyii
Tarheel 132 Posted November 12 I do believe we are talking the same hose and congrats. Looks like you have found the problem

Looks like you have found the problem Perhaps but I found other problems as well crawling around. Someone had pulled the pump and had 1 missing bolt , and one with no spacer. So I ripped it out, pulled motor cause cylinder 1 had no spark. Ripped a hydro out of a dead frame I had and installed it. Hopefully I’ll have it running by end of week. jlasater 338 Posted November 18 Drill the hole out and put a sleeve in it. Most hardware stores have them in various sizes.

Well mine is actually broke wore out. I’m kinda leaning towards just installing the foot pedal hydro system I was building for the loader. My issue is how to transfer brakes to left side of tractor.
