Chris727 2,246 Posted November 16 Hello, Have been working on trying to replace the hose to sump on the 917 as the hydro was whining and these hoses are known to crack and cause that symptom. I bought some 100R6 hydraulic hose from JD. I am having trouble getting it to flex enough to get over the bottom fitting. There is not much gap between the fittings. I don’t know if I can get a more flexible hose? I found that the auto parts store carries 5/8 ID fuel line but it’s only 38 PSI. I’m not sure how much pressure this is under. I loosened the lower fitting and rotated it but that did not help. My next attempt would be to again remove the hose, then remove the bottom fitting completely and install the hose while on the bench. Then rethread the assembly into the sump and attempt to slide the hose up onto the upper fitting, but I fear I will experience the same amount of flex required. SmilinSam 4,240 Posted November 16 If its a return line from hydro lift valve or steering valve its usually a more flexible hose thats used. Not as stiff as a pressure line. At least going by the Sunstar lines used that run through the coolers and also to the fitting bottom of the transmission. Bill725 1,364 Posted November 16 (edited) The hose is the inlet/suction for the hydro. There is a drain port on the mounting face of the hydro/transaxle case where fluid returns to reservoir/case. I purchased hoses from Simplicity, P/N 1650564SM to convert my late model Sovereign hydro from side filter to the old remote so I can power a chipper/shredder. I have parts but have not done it yet. The hose packaged is Gates 10GTH 350PSI 5/8" ISO 4079 Type 1/EN 854 R6/SAE 1006R6, which is low pressure used for hydraulic, HD transmission oil cooler & antifreeze. The same size and spec of the Continental brand pictured above. I suggest measuring the length of hose needed, cut hose to length, remove the lower hose end from transaxle, install hose on upper hose end, slide hose clamps onto hose, install lower hose end on hose, install lower hose end into transaxle, tighten hose clamps. maxwood 636 Posted November 16 Hello, Loosen the lower 45 degree fitting ,rotate the fittng to allow the hose length to fit over the fittng and rotate as tightening the fitting while sliding the hose onto the fitting. hope that makes sense. Chris727 2,246 Posted November 16 Thank you for the suggestions, I had cut this 1/4” longer than the original because I had wanted to fully cover the fittings but that was before attempting to install. I will trim the 1/4” off and see if that helps. These fittings are so long that probably a little more could be trimmed. Had lubed with vasoline but will try hydraulic fluid instead. Chris727 2,246 Posted November 17 I got it installed. I shortened the hose by 1/4” and then slid it off of the upper fitting just far enough that only the barb was still holding it. This allowed it to flex more. I already had the lower fitting loosened to rotate. Used dish soap to lubricate. Worked with it just a bit and got it started over the lower fitting and slid into place.
