Remote filter install

I got a remote oil filter kit for my KT17 series II and I'm having trouble figuring where the filter is supposed to mount. As Jimi sang "Have you been experienced?" 😉 Thanx in advance, Dave

Dave I’m not sure what you have there will work. The adapter I have mounts to the block after removing this plate. I then grind about 5/16” off the vertical aspect of the frame to allow clearance for the oil filter. I’m not sure how that remote adapter you have fits as I’ve never seen one like that.

@ShaunE, It will work. These were commonly used on Cub Cadets. Here is one on my friend's 919.

Ok, thank you for the photo Chris.  I thought there was a specific spot I was supposed to put it. I'm pretty good at improvising. Thanx, Dave

Those are hard to mount in a "good" out of the way location. I once got a remote kit for a Vanguard twin I put in a 917 I ended up running the hoses between the frame and the engine back to the flat of the frame to the back of the flywheel side of the engine and bolted the filter mount in there somewhere. Had to take the deck off to change the filter. Seems the Briggs remote is not quite as "bulky" as the one Kohler used in these engines.

I have found it easiest to make a careful cut to the frame to allow for the filter clearance.  If you only have the remote setup, then I can see how it is a bit hard to find a good location.  I believe the Cubs that used the KT's and Magnums all had the remote setup.

As others have stated it’s a much cleaner look to just use the block mounted filter adapter off of the newer magnum engines and then nip the corner off of the frame to give it clearance for the filter. Never need to worry about hoses leaking then either.

So, I took the day off and ended up spending much of the day on this project. By working slower, it takes longer to make mistakes. Replacing the tin was arduous but we got there. Decided to mount the filter under the frame.

The lines were not pointing in the direction I had anticipated.

I have a hand held pipe bending tool. I've never used it, but I have watched some YouTube videos. Got things pointed in the right direction.

One of the hoses leaked, so I had new ones made. Some of you have probably guessed the next chapter in the saga. I had a loose drive pulley that will need a more permanent repair sometime soon, but I got it snug enough for now and reattached the deck.

Then I raised the deck.

A minor modification to the filter. It doesn't leak (for now) but I'll have to adjust the filter mount an inch or so.😚 (not lovin' the new emojis) The system added half a quart capacity. Thank you for your support, Dave
