Tarheel Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 Took the six speed to the tree line and pulled my old 7117 around to the shop. Put a battery in it and cleaned the points. Added fresh fuel and in a bit had it running (If not running good) It needs the carburetor gone through and more than likely a set of rings along with gaskets and seals. This tractor has seen a lot of miles. It replaced the Agco when it stopped pulling the hills at mom's. BAck then I used one machine for all of the mowing there. Now I use lighter more nimble machines on the steep parts and the bigger ones on the open parts. One day I noticed smoke and stopped to check. The PTO side seal had been pushed out of place. It has been parked from then till now. After reading quite a few post here on the subject, I'm thinking to ring it. When I started it today, It ran with very little blow by, but after a while I could see oil mist coming from the valve breather tube and when I placed my finger over the tube it built pressure. Not quickly and not a large amount but pressure. With all the parts I have bought and batteries etc, I need to slow on my spending for a while so this isn't something I plan to start anytime soon. I do have a B&S 16 single that i guess could be made to fit. Any of you made this swap ? Any input would be great. Or if you think I should just overhaul the Kohler, let me know. Thanks Quote
Brettw Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 You can make the swap, but would need to verify the driveshaft connection, and the ignition system would need to be changed. The KT is a battery powered ignition (12 volts to the coil for spark), the Briggs spark is powered by the engine itself. In the case of the KT, to shut it off you kill power to the coil. The Briggs, you ground out the spark circuit to kill it. If you have the inclination, and the KT is good overall, I would hone it an pop a set of rings in it. You don't need to split the case to swap out rings and it isn't that difficult of a job. That is my opinion and what I would do. 3 Quote
