wisac Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 I have an early b-10 with a sloppy BGB. Is a b-110 a good parts candidate? TIA Quote
SmilinSam Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Both are straight 3 speed tractors so I'm pretty sure theres no problem. Should be the same basic gearbox. 3 Quote
wisac Posted April 22, 2024 Author Posted April 22, 2024 That was my thought as well. Thanks for the confirmation! From what I have gathered I should be able to use any early 3/4 inch shaft straight 3 speed box? That would certainly give me more options! Quote
PhanDad Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 In a pinch, you can use the newer "big" BGB, but since the input shaft and the entire cross shaft is 7/8" diameter, you would need the 7/8" input yoke and a 7/8" dia tranny drive pulley. I don't know if the "special" tranny drive pulley that was used on the B-110 BGB was used on the early B-10 (3/4" dia), but you couldn't use it. It does look like there's enough meat to enlarge the diameter to 7/8": The PTO end of the "small" BGB is 7/8" so there shouldn't be an issue with the hanging PTO: I've always wondered why, in the "small" BGB, Simplicity went with a 3 diameter cross shaft and 2 diameter input shaft. They must have gotten a "deal" on the 20mm dia bevel gears. 1 Quote
wisac Posted April 26, 2024 Author Posted April 26, 2024 Thank you all! I have several potential paths forward now! Quote

Would it be okay to replace it with a solid pulley? Quote

I think to make the clutch belt less "grabby". 12 minutes ago, AC710 said: Would it be okay to replace it with a solid pulley? I have minimal knowledge of non-hydro trannys. I think newer gear tractors had a regular pulley - others should confirm. Quote

The 710 has a soft-ish clutch. The 7016 will snap your neck if you forget and pop the clutch. A "less grabby" clutch was my guess as to the special pulley. Quote
acken Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 Iv'e changed out a couple of my 2 piece pulleys , and put single piece instead. I have very little flat ground on my property. When going downhill the original pulley makes a lot of noise, and it feels like I'm approaching warp speed. 1 Quote
