Tiller... What's this?

I recently was able to pick up a tiller from PaulK on here and it has something on it I'm not sure of. Between the lower linkage arms there is a cross piece with a short length of chain and a U-shaped bracket attached. You can make it out in the picture I have attached. I didn't see it mentioned in the manual I printed off. Any ideas as to it's purpose?image.png.c08f5910f69ee6566bc9175e3758a8d7.png

I need a clearer picture to tell what its for, or guess anyway. I have owned several tillers, have 2 nice ones in the shop now ready to use. None have had this so I can't say.

It almost, hard to tell from the picture, looks like a tiller depth limit chain. Which was common on or factory installed on all AC Homelite  and 300/400 series tillers. But as Gene said, a better picture or two would help.

Sorry, I'll have to get a better picture of it and attach. Assuming, that it is a depth limit chain I'll need some assistance on how to use it since this is my first tiller.

Yep, it is 100% a depth limit chain. This thread should give you a little bit of an idea on use.
