Engaging PTO trips circuit breaker- Sovereign 18 Command

New to me Sovereign 18 with Kohler Command.

When you activate the PTO with the deck on, the tractor shuts off and trips the main breaker.

If I disconnect the deck belt from the PTO and activate the PTO, it does not shut the tractor off.

The deck belt appears to be fine and is in the green area.

any help is appreciated.

Got to be a power wire  somewhere in around the belt, idlers and such that is getting pinched & grounded is my thought given your description.

I am both new to this forum and simplicity tractors but I had a somewhat similar situation with the breaker. It turned out being in the ignition switch of all things...why idk

And that also was with a sovereign 18 Kohler command

And wouldn’t you know…this started when I swapped out my ignition switch.

I am however now using the stock replacement. We shall see…

From your July 25th post, you said you purchased this switch:

I was able to find this "back of switch" labeled view for the equivalent Stens switch:

Above image rotated for comparison to an original Sov18 switch:

The terminals of the 692318 are labeled the same (assuming I=M).

BUT I wasn't able to find a functionality table for the 692318  switch.  This is the table for the Sov18 (from the Simplicity Electric Info Manual):

Command_Wire_Core.jpg.a2b0f3b5b316bf9812942f36b129aafd.jpg

Now that you've removed the 692318 switch, can you confirm the same functionality?

It would be nice to have a backup ignition switch part number that doesn't involve repining 2 wires in the harness connector as the "official" replacement switch does.

There could also be a dead short in the pto safety harness after the switch going to brain.

@PhanDad

thanks for your help on this!

So I bought this key switch to replace that Briggs key switch that I had..

After I got this key switch and installed it…I had the same exact issue where the Engine dies when activating the PTO with the deck all installed.

If I remove the deck belt from the PTO and engage it…no problems and the tractor does not die. Any pulleys on the deck and on the tractor seem fine and can rotate by hand.

Hmmm.  It works without the deck belt on, but dies when introduced to a heavy instantaneous load.   Just a thought, does this engine have an oil sentry and is it hooked up?  Is it possible the load is causing a drop in oil pressure enough that the sending unit is killing the engine?  Bad sending unit maybe?  Just a thought
