4211 steering wheel

I have a Simplicity 4211 that the shaft for the steering wheel broke just below the nut that holds the wheel on. The steering wheel does stay on but is a little lose. Is there any idea on how to fix this? Would a bolt through the bottom of the steering wheel and through the flat section of the steering shaft work? Or would that cause the steering wheel to crack. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've included links to the manuals for the 4200 Gear & Hydro tractors. I would definetly replace the part. When I purchased my 4111 it had the same thing wrong with it. I sawed the shaft off so it was nice and smooth then drilled down through the shaft approximately 1 1/2". Then tapped a new hole and installed a new bolt. Just like new and not a problem since.

I have also tapped them with success - 1/4" threaded rod with locktite works well. Neverseize the nut for easy future removal and use a flat washer and lockwasher.
