For this current weather issue I think I am ready.

And waiting in position.

16GTH-L Front and rear wheel weights.  42" blower, two Wheel Horse tombstone weights, rubber strap chains.

Even have a magnetic mount battery powered rotating beacon light to go on top of the roof.

I would say so.

This evenings local news stations weather forecast predicts I'm going to have about 10" of snow and then 0.5" of ice.  Much better for the ice to be on top, but definitely not good for trees and power lines.

What's your forecast for ice?

12” of something………

snow ending in sleet, maybe ice on top.

Tomorrow into Monday will be an adventure

I got the blower mounted on the Sunstar.  I guess I am prepared for the "Current Unpleasantness."

Put the weights and chains on my “16GTH-L” night. Have probably 4-5” so far on the ground, will try the blower in the AM.

Storm has touched down here, snow is coming down fast with low visibility. Only about 3" so far but predictions are calling for at least 15".

About 8" of snow so far.  Calling for 12"-18" depending on change over to "wintery mix" to start around 2:00-3:00 pm.

Supposed to be high snowfall rate for the next couple of hours, until then.

Have not gone out yet to blow,  going to wait till noon or so.  Need to blow a path for the dog to do her business. Wife shoveled front walk and a spot earlier in the morning.

The much younger neighbor "kid" is out with his battery powered snowblower right now.

Its working well, but he has done it twice so far to keep up with the snow.

Had a couple machines that wouldn’t start and had to push out of the way but got the blower tractor out of the building finally. Impressed with how these perform. Had the skids nearly all the way up. Had between 3-6” on the road depending on where I was at. Will finish the concrete driveway with the 7116 with blade. The 16GTH-L has the winter kit installed but still managed to ice up but at least I was done at that point.

The 16GTH-L did well once I figured out the speed to keep it full on Governor, but not overload it to wanting to stall:

Went back out to clean a spot for the wife's Aussie-doodle.

Got the blower tractor stuck on the slope below the drive.  Hit previous frozen patch.

This is where it was:

Should have waited until the storm is over.  That tractor has blown much, much deeper snow in it's earlier life 😉:

I mounted this new "cab" for a walk-behind on the 7016 plus tarp-made fenders. We have sent all our usual snow to you folks in the east and south. I have tried it out successfully, but this storm is 24 degrees and a "12-inch" snow storm - that is ....12 inches between flakes. I am just hoping for cold enough weather to freeze my kokanee salmon lakes. So far it's boats only.

I have a question if anyone has a minute or two between plowing and shoveling. On the single-stage snowblower attachments like mine and those shown in this thread, there do not seem to be any shear pins. Am I missing something or is it just a belt-blowing experience if you jam something in there?

Also, I was having problems with the blower's driven pulley sliding off the shaft. I solved this by cutting a small groove in the key and using loc-tite on the set screw:

Correct.  I've had both the belt squeal/snap and once almost stall the engine.

Had that problem also.  My solution:

I have not had any seat time this year due to not fabbing my B-series trip-plow to fit the 917H. But this is our current yield, been snowing all day and radar shows it to continue into the AM. I believe we’re predicted to get another 5” yet but we’ll see how that plays out.

I use a walk behind snowblower, blowed 8" of snow yesterday and another 2 - 3" today. I prefer my walk behind cause it's 30" and I don't have to open any door except the 36' door.

Well, was cleaning up a bit this am.

Used the plow tractor to scrape up a bunch of stuff the blower was riding up onto.

Note to self, do not blow snow until it is all done especially if it going to sleet at the end............

I was blowing down the hill to the tractor garage to give it a rest.  Cleaned up a bit, then all of sudden it squeaked and shut off when I was going forward under snow load.

Let it sit a bit, started tractor back up with the PTO clutch disengaged, re-engaged under no snow load and it stalled engine.

Belt not broken, or visibly jumped.  Auger rotates by hand.  With the cab on it makes it difficult to flip seat deck up to check PTO area.

Any guess's what it could be?

Seems like it is between the cone clutch and blower. Did a PTO idler pulley bearing freeze?

Posted

I was thinking moisture induced freeze maybe, now that is back in the garage I can heat everything up and see if it was freeze or seize.

I can also take the tension off the belt set-up and check that way.

At 20° and windy today to cold to do much..........

Good advice.  All the neighbors that blew their driveways clean early evening yesterday were chopping ice today.

Hopefully it not a cone clutch bearing or other malfunction.  Does the cone clutch work normally with the belt off (or tension lever disengaged if you don't want to remove the belt)?

Tomorrow’s battle.

warm up tractor garage, release tension, check rotating parts.

Then dive further, and hope for the best. 🫩

Went down and looked closely after releasing belt tension lever.

Belt jumped and wedged between cone clutch pulley and the brake lever frame area.

Just like the brother in-law did this past summer to the other 7117 I got.

Question on tension though.  Had it set to  the middle of the green zone, should I have it closer or just in the red zone for tightness?

Old belt going to cut and pull belt.

While it is apart may try to flip the pulley on the blower for better alignment with single hitch.

Or might check if one of the other blowers has the right set-up and swap that out.  Just have to move more stuff.

Other than dealing with the mid 20's temps for the next ten days, no big snow on the horizon today.

Glad to hear it wasn't a PTO issue.

In the "front" red zone (more tension); I usually start a bit more forward than shown in the pic.

From the operating instructions:
