3212H LH Axle Troubles

I'm working on my 3212 hydro I picked up earlier this winter and noticed the left wheel was leaning. Took the wheel off today to find a carriage bolt and soup can shim. Quick question for any of you who have been into these transmissions. What the difficulty of replacing an axle? Next question is, I have a parts B-210 variable drive, would the axles happen to be the same? Thanks for any advice!

Replacing the axle isn't too bad (the axle tube is a lot more work).  Read this DIY available to you in the Downloads Forum:

https://simpletractors.com/files/file/316-axle-tube-replacement-do-it-yourself/

Notice this comment in the "About this file" section:

The first 19 steps show how to remove the axle from the EDIT "left" EDIT side of the tractor and starting at step 73 the axle is installed.

The axle can also be removed from the EDIT "right" EDIT side of the tractor, but I can't find that post(s) ATM.

If you are going to remove just the axle, make sure you file or grind burrs so you do not score the bushing bearings.

I don't think I've ever seen anything cobbed that bad.

Took someone a lot of time to pull it off too. They filed out both the keyway and the hub the size of the carriage bolt. I'm guessing the axle shaft was worn down from the hub slipping and that's why the soup can shim??? Drilling through the hub and axle must have been the last resort.

@Dusthomps

I was thinking more about axle removal and checked the referenced post, I had the removal direction wrong.  I edited the post above.

Then some more thinking and although I can't find a post, these pics from 12 years ago appear to show you can remove the axle from the right side without taking the differential off:

Remove right hub:

Remove left hub & collar (deburr & clean up shaft as @GregB stated):

Push axle shaft out right side:

Pull shaft all the way out:

The differential gear pulled with the axle shaft.

The Vickers shown above is an earlier version with a different right wheel hub (and shorter axle shaft I believe):

Let us know how it goes.

@PhanDad

Appreciate the update as it makes the job look even easier. Assuming the B-210 axle is in good shape I'll get to it next weekend. I will for sure follow up and let you know how it goes.

The axle in my parts B-210 turned out to be in great shape and got it swapped in the 3212 this afternoon. Thanks again for the insight to make this job as easy as it could be!
