I'm working on changing the engine and replacing the steering shaft on my B-110. Taking out the engine went swimmingly, steering, not so much. I have the dash off so it's easier to work on, but I can't for the life of me figure out if the end in the picture is supposed to come off or is the only way to remove the shaft and replace it is to pull the steering wheel which I am sure is a joy to do. The collar in the pictures appears to have a snap ring and reading the manual, to me that collar should be above the dash not where it is right now and I didn't read anything about a snap ring being on or around that collar.

I may be able to help… you have to remove the steering wheel and pull the steering column out through the underside of the dash. The collar you have pictured, there should be 2. One on the top side of the dash under the black composite collar. Then there was a rubberized bushing of sorts that fit into the hole in the dash to keep the column from flopping all over, then another set collar.there were also snap rings for secure placement.

I wound up destroying the rubberized bushing and wound up making another from treated lumber. Works just as good.

As far as actually getting the steering wheel off since mine was jammed on. I drilled a hole in the black composite collar above the dash so I could loosen the set collar inside it. This allows everything to drop out of the way so you can get a puller on the steering wheel itself. To repair that black composite piece just get some JB Weld 2 stage plastic bonder, sandpaper, and a can of Rustoleum black lacquer. Hope it helps!

So that is a snap ring, now that I think about it, I suppose that is to keep the collar from sliding down accidentally. Makes sense now, two collars. I'll have to look at the manual again. Ok, so I need to work on the steering wheel. At the top there is just the steering wheel and that black composite collar which slides up and down, nothing to hold it in place. This is a TREMENDOUS help. Thank you very much. Hopefully I can get things going. Had all winter, but ya know, wait until it is almost planting season to do things! I work better under pressure lol. Thanks again!

PS
You may hear a large amount of swearing from the Minnesota direction if this goes badly

Trust me, I know! Getting the steering wheel off the column was one of the half dozen or so hardest parts of the job I just finished

Looking at that yoke on the bottom end of the steering shaft, it appears you're missing the bushings that should be between the yoke and the 3/8"bolt.  Looks like threads of bolt are wearing into the yoke.

I have new ones in my shop for the new steering shaft.

WOW was that a pain in the ***! Finally just took the whole thing to the vice, close the vice enough so the steering wheel sat on top of the vice and beat the shaft out with a big *** punch. Tried 3 different pullers, no go. On to my next problem...........

I hear ya! I used a three jawed puller on mine with a rachet and cheater bar. When it broke loose it sounded like a rifle shot!
