POWERMAX /Onan Engine won't charge

Recommended Posts

Mike
Have a 9020 Simplicity and AC 720 both with charging system problems. One of the tractors has been at an Agco/Simp. dealer and they are at their wits end as new parts don't seem to work either. Now it seems the flywheel with magnets is the problem and I need to know if anyone else has found this to be true. Seems I need a new flywheel that is cast iron (turns out there were 4 different fly wheels used on the CCKB series). There is 170-3022 ND stamped on the flywheel I need. Anyone out there got one for sale? Please advise as I am up a tree. Thanks, Roy G.

Roy,
I have two AC 620's, one also has a charging problem.
I haven't checked to see what the trouble is on the
one with the problem, as it has the loader on it and I have to take the loader off to get at any elec. components. I will let you know what I find out.
But on your tractor you have in the shop, I don't see how it could be the flywheel, did they check the stator? Is the magnetizem gone from the flywheel? and if it is can't it be re-magnetized? I have never heard of this.
Please post what you find out, thanks bud.

Floyd: I sent you a detailed e mail, but for others who may be interested here is more on the magent problem in the CKKB engines. I checked with a good Onan mechanic here and he says, YES, they do fail over time and there is no solution other than a new flywheel (cast iron on mine) that has good magnets. Seems the magnets were glued in somehow but because the flywheel is cast iron, over time the magnets go bad and cannot be replaced. Here is another reason we all need to work on a GOOD ENGINE REPLACEMENT FOR THE CKKB engines that will fit and work on the AC 620./720 AND Simplicity 4020 and 9020 tractors. Also, we need to find someone who has sucessfully put a small one wire generator on the tractors that will work without tearing them to pieces. Another suggestion is a small solar powered generator mountedon the hood but I have no clue about these and cost of same. Any ideas??? Roy G.

Hi Guys,
I have a GM alternator on my 9020. The only problem is that you have to remove the belt (alt) to remove the mower belt so it takes an extra 10-15 minutes to R&R the mower deck. I have a wiring schematic and if there is some interest I could take some pictures. This is a very simple mod to do.
What I want is a replacement for the CCKB. I was searching the list when I found this post.
Best Regards to ALL - I LOVE MY 9020!!!!
