Stuck Flywheel

Help. I am trying to get the flywheel off my Briggs & Stratton cast iron engine. Any ideas that would make this job easier. I am hoping to replace the broken piston arm in the motor. I borrowed a gear puller from a neighbor....the flywheel came right off! thanks!!!!

Stevie, Not sure on the Briggs, but my Kohler had a taper. A friend suggested hitting the end of the crank shaft with a punch. One shot and the flywheel slid right off. Easiest puller I ever used!

If you use a pry bar under the flywheel and hit the end of the shaft with a brass hammer it should come off. You may want to put the fly wheel nut on the shaft and screw it down a couple of threads to protect the end of the flywheel. After a few taps it will come loose. ddh
