"Punture Proof" Tire Idea

No need to go to all that trouble!Unless you want to! Just get some tire sealer from Briggs,[sorry don't know part # offhand]put it in and little punctures like that are a thing of the past! This stuff REALLY works! But make sure you use the Briggs stuff---no imitations! This stuff is especially good for leaking/dry-rotted sidewalls, and bead sealing problems. dlc

I had a customer come in and request we insert his precut piece of 1/4" race tire carcass inside his tractor tire and then seal it up with a regular tube. He was having a fairly constant thorn problem and the material seemed ideal to form a harder protective barrier to prevent the tube from future tread punctures - at least for short thorns. :) He said he was able to cut the material very easily with a kitchen knife but that it needed to be kept wet. He had cut the piece to fit around the outer diameter of the tire which was larger than needed for the inside but I just let it over lap - it seemed to work fine. He used a road race slick - I don't think drag slicks will be thick enough unless overlapped many times.

I know if you are in a thorny enviorment it can be very difficult to keep your tires from constantly going flat. I once pulled 25 thorns out of one tire! Our previous experience has been that not too many of the sealers out there really work - this could be a good alternative.

I filled all of my tractor tires with powdered talc from the local mineral company. Wheels get real heavy this way, don't know whether they would survive a puncture or not though, as there is a small amount of compressed air in them.
