Changing transmission fluid

Recommended Posts

john
It seems that when I attempted to replace the
transmission fluid in my Simplicity Regent Hydro,
the Hydrostatic Tuff Torq K56 transmission refused
to accept all I had to offer. To be honest, I did
not know the transmission capacity until I discovered
the Simple Tractor site. I just felt like more fluid
came out of the transmission than went back in. I
followed the manual instructions to the letter but
now find that I must get another 32 ozs in that thing.

Can anyone offer any tricks or solutions. The dealer
just said to drive it back and forth a few times, then
recheck the fluid. But, that requires a little work;
removing the battery again and trying to pry up that
seal. Of course I know that I have to do that now,
but how do you really change the transmission fluid
so that it is a one time chore? Also, I noticed what
seemed to be a filter underneath the spring, however
the owners manual does not mention it. Could this have
prevented the fluid from draining into the right side
fast enough that I just assumed the thing was full.
Anyway, if there is a filter there, when should I
replace the thing?

Thanks

Steve, I'm not familiar with that type of hydro BUT it has to have a vent plug on it somewhere so you can put the rest of the fluid in.What you have to do is contact Jeff Nemes,he would[or should!] know where the vent plug is.You have to let the air out of the system while filling the resevoir or you'll be 2 yrs. getting all the oil in!Jeff's a knowledgable fellow and don't even bite! dlc

Well, finally got in touch with the manufactor and
they said I should have removed the filter. The owner's
manual made no mention of this. It seems that the new
oil did not flow through the filter fast enough, so
the oil reached the full indicator without the tranmission
really being full. Thanks for the reply.

Simplicity has issued a service bulletin regarding this - see the link below:[A href='http://home.att.net/~jnem/pics/99-19-PurgingTuffTorq.jpeg']http://home.att.net/~jnem/pics/99-19-PurgingTuffTorq.jpeg[/a]
