Power Steering Fabrication/Retrofit

I have been thinking about adding power steering to my 7116. I have a 36" loader on it and gets a little hard to steer sometimes. I am decent at fabrication and will most likely undertake this project soon but wanted to tap the lnowledge here first to see if anyone has done it, how it went, suggestions and parts used. A slight movement of the manual steering activates a control valve. If I was going to fabricate PS, I think I'd start looking for surplus hydraulics. A suitable control valve is going to be the challenge. Had a couple of other "abstract" thoughts. 1) Kubota uses "Micro-Computer Controlled Electronic Power Steering" on some of their garden tractors. May be easier to retrofit than hydraulics. Here's a link > http://www.kubota.com/g2160features.cfm#list 2) Take a look at the "landing gear" on an over-the-road (tractor-trailer) trailer. Most use a 2-speed manual gear. Something like that could probably be adapted too. Pull the steering wheel up for greater gear reduction (slower but easier)....... push it down for regular steering (faster but harder). I have been planning a loader. Yesterday I was underneath my son's Mustang replacing a tie rod. I have made a decision. My power steering will be rack and pinion from a Mustang parts car that he has. I plan to mount the rack just below the frame, with one tie rod connected to the existing drag link. The steering shaft will connect directly to the rack. You must decide which tie rod to connect to, to make the steering work right. I'm hoping the power steering hoses are long enough to work as they are. I plan on using the pump from the Mustang also. I will be using two pumps, one for hydraulics and one for steering. This is the simplest system that I have been able to come up with. Rod H.
