Stuck in Reverse

Recommended Posts

I have a AC 716-6 that is stuck in reverse. It is in reverse when the shifter is in neutral. The shifter will go into a forward gear, but when the clutch is let out it kills the engine like it is in forward and reverse at the same time. The shifter will not go into reverse. This was my dads tractor, and he had this problem before. He paid $300 several years ago to have it fixed, but it has seemed to come back. I would like to fix this myself, is there anyone out there to give me some pointers. Thanks Dave Wolfe

Sounds like a problem with the shifter rails or poppets. Not an uncommon problem. For a quick fix, search the archives for "bent", or "bend" and "screwdriver". You can reach in through the oil fill hole and get it back in neutral. Then be real careful shifting, or fix it right.

Good morning peeps! I’m always searching for helpful information with my AC collection. Hope to find out new information and pass on my own experience in restoration. Here are some pics of my babies. I’m still looking for front rims for the 410 so yesterday I put the 310 wheels on took it for a drive. Working pretty good but still needs some carb work. Gotta get the 310 running next. Have a great day!😁

It's in pretty sad shape, but yes I have a yellow plastic cap that I'm fairly certain is what you need. PM me your details and I'll get it out to you.
