tej
After cussing the steering on my B12 for many years I finally fixed it. I found that the driven gear that mounts on the steering arm shaft caused 80+% of the slack in the steering. The hole in this gear where it mounts on the shaft wears to an hour glass shape allowing the gear to rock on the shaft. I replaced both gears and the u-joint bushings (all available from a Simplicity Dealer) and lubed and tightened all other components of the steering. Now there is only a half-inch of slack in the steering which is caused by the steering rod ball joints. The cost was about $65.00 for parts but it really tightened up the steering.
