SmilinSam posted a long explanation of some of the things he looks for in evaluating old tractors. I've added it to the Resources section as a Technical Article. Here's a link to read the article. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/portal_articles.asp?catid=12&cattitle=Technical Use this discussion topic to add other things to the list that you check out, especially things related to specific models, or other series such as Broadmoors, etc. The foot-draggin' Clubhouse Custodian...

On the B-10 style tractors; check the left wheel for wobble. I have seen a number of them play here, the bolts that mount the hub to the axel become loose and egg out the cast wheel hub. The three speed transmisions become hard to get into gear when they become worn. I replaced a shift pin in one because the guy muscled it into gear. The less worn rear ends slide into gear a lot easier. Primarily check reverse and second. Both of my B-10 series tractors I bought had the engine bolts loose, one had so much wear in the rear bolts that they were almost worn through. The holes in the block and heavy plate were still good but the frame holes were badly rounded out. Ask about or test the charging system. These can be expensive to repair. Excellent posts, wish I read this before I bought my first tractor. Great ideas Sam Dan

The Broadmoor,Yoeman, and Serf has the rear Wheels/hubs held on with pins and the holes in the end of the axle get egg shaped. mowerman1193

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
