Gear box fluids

Recommended Posts

I just got my first Simplicity, a 7010 six-speed, without any opeator's manual and need to know what would be a suitable fluid for the transfer case and transaxle. This garden tractor has not been properly maintained, so I don't mind draining whatever is in it now. If a motor oil or transmission fluid would do the job well, I don't want to pay dearly for something special from a dealer. Thanks for any input.

Chuck Simplicity recomends for 7000 and 7100 series tractors for the bevel gear box and gear drive transmissions Simplicity Mutti Purpose Hyd oil. In 1975 and older tractors it was 80 W 90 gear oil. I was told the Hyd oil is lighter and lub the upper part of the transmissin better on the new transmissions. Mark
